018 A Moderately Sized River which rises in two head waters, the one in a Moss at Meadowhead, on the eastern boundary of the Parish of Loudoun, Ayrshire, and the other a mile eastward in the Parish of Avondale in Lanarkshire, near the battlefield of Drumclog. the Rills making a junction a mile below their respective Sources. It Winds through a Well Cultivated district, and receives Several Small tributaries on its course, Skirts the town of Kilmarnock and Separates the latter from Riccarton, and also becomes their respective Parish Boundary, receives the Kilmarnock Water a little below Riccarton, and empties itself into the Firth of Clyde at the Town of Irvine, its Course, generally is Smooth, bed gravelly. -
