018 | A large and elegant edifice, Situated in St. Marnock's Street, Contains 1600 Sittings, with an imposing front and a Sumptuous Tower, which are rich in Gothic Ornament and Architectural beauty. Was erected in 1836 at an expense of £5000, raised chiefly by Voluntary Subscriptions from the Members of the Established Church, and was what is termed a 'Proprietary Church', it was Supplied by the Ministers of the Parish Churches for Some time after its erection, until the disruption in 1843, after which it became unoccupied, it has been recently conveyed by a New Title Deed to the Church of Scotland, and will be Occupied as a place of Public Worship, So Soon as the necessary repairs, which it is in need of, are completed, it is neither a Parish Church nor Quoad Sacra Church, but a Chapel of ease, but it is intended to Apply to the Court of Tiend to assign a Parochial district to it, when an Endowment is got for a Minister. |
