018 | This is One of those Certified by Government and is inspected Annually by One of their inspectors, the Object of the School is to reclaim and educate neglected and destitute Children and Orphans, and to Provide them with Board and Lodgings; the Parochial Board School is supported by Parish Assessment, the Ragged School is supported by Voluntary Subscriptions, and an Annual Grant of £25 from Government, the two are Merged into One School; There are six teachers Attached to this institution Viz. One English teacher two female teachers of Ayrshire Needle Work, a Matron, Shoemaker and Tailor; the Boys not only receive an Ordinary education but are also taught a useful trade, the Girls Also receive an Ordinary education, and are taught needle and household Work etc. It is a large Plain Old building three storeys high, & in good repair, Situated in St. Marnock Street. Was formerly the residence of the Boyd family, and is still known by the name of 'Kilmarnock House', it is now the Property of the Duke of Portland, for which a Small rent is Paid by the Committee of the School. |
