George Kelk Esq. Factor to the Duke of Portland John Glen Parker Esq. of Assloss Archibald McKay Esq. Author of the 'History of Kilmarnock' 116 King St. Kilmarnock |
028 | A wooded hill situated in the Earl of Dean Castle portions of which have been recently planted with mixed wood and is the property of the Duke of Portland. It is bounded on the South by a portion of the Wall that was built by Lord Boyd round his Estate about 200 years ago. Respecting the derivation of the name I have got two accounts of it, Mr McKay thinks that is a Corruption of the word Justice Hill, as it is possible the Lords Boyd administered justice at an early period. The other is from J.G. Parker, who says he heard that one of the Boyd family had visited Palestine and from the similarity of appearance it had to some object there he called it Judea Hill. |
