020 | This is an eminence in the eastern part of the Parish, on the farm of Allanton on which are the remains of a Roman Camp. Tradition says that it was on this eminence that Wallace with a few followers lay in Ambush for the English officer Fenwick whom he defeated. The road by which Fenwick was to pass ran along the Camp at the foot of The Beg within 5 Chains of where Wallace lay. |
