013 Fenwick is a Small Village Situated on the road leading from Kilmarnock to Glasgow, and about 4 miles from the former place. There are three Houses of Worship in this village. viz.
The Free Church erected A.D. 1844. The United Presbyterian Church erected A.D. 1787, and the Parish Church erected AD 1643, there is a Parish School and two Circulating [libraries] In the Grave Yard belonging to the Parish Church is a Monument erected to the memory of the Revd. [Reverend] William Guthrie first Minister in the Parish, and another somewhat Similar in Shape, erected to the memory of Captain Paton, who was executed in Edinburgh 1684. There are also the graves of three other Covenanters. Viz. Peter Gemmel, John Fergushill and George Woodburn, & James White who were Shot in 1685. These graves have headstones with inscriptions. In this Grave Yard is yet to be Seen what the inhabitants term "the Jugs" which is an Iron Collar with a chain attached, this Collar was placed round the necks of those found guilty of certain crimes. The end of the Chain is fastened at such a height in the wall of the Church as to Keep the person to be punished in a Standing posture, exposed to the gaze of the Congregation.
Fenwick Parish is in the Presbytery of Irvine and Synod of Glasgow and Ayr. The Earl of Glasgow is Patron.
