012 | A small rural village on the right bank of Glazert Burn about 2 miles from the South western extremity of the Parish to which it gives the name. The Houses generally are of a respectable description, and are occupied principally by tradesmen, and by those employed in Hapland Mill. In the village there is an Established Church, a Free Church, and a School in connection with each. The following inscription is over the door of a house, immediately adjoining the "Vault" in the Church Yard. "This School is erected and endowed by James Viscount Chandbays in Love to this Parish in which his Father Hans Hamilton was pastor 41 years in King James' the sixt his Raigne. ICLV" When the present Parish School was erected; this was converted into a dwelling house. |
