007 A mound of earth of Circular form whereon it is Said (by Mr Archibald & those quoted, that An Ancient fort once Stood, of a Square form, but long Since Removed, there is however Sufficient traces of the existence of Something of the kind remaining.
The New Stat. Acct. [Statistical Account] & Paterson's History thus makes mention of it "The Ruins of an Ancient Square Fort, formerly stood on the banks of the Rye on the brink of a precipitous rock called Aitnach Craig about 40 years ago they were wholly removed"
