033 ; 034 A large and rapid stream which takes its rise from Surface water in Glenbuck, Ph. [Parish] of Muirkirk, and after a course of about 30 Miles falls into the Sea at the town of Ayr. For a few miles of its Course at first it is only a Small Stream but being joined by the Greenock and Garpal, two of its principal tributaries, it becomes Considerable. The last twenty miles of its course is bounded generally by steep banks mostly wooded. A few fertile holms are interspersed along its margins. In its bed is found a Kind of Claystone well known by the name 'Water of Ayr Stone' and is a good whetstone.
