By the name of "The Camp" is known in the immediate locality the traces of an [erection] Still Circular in form, with a diameter of nearly 120 feet. The fosse, road, and other indications of Roman activity and skill are untraceable here. Its erection may be feued to the days of the Edwards of England. A single circumstance gives strength to this opinion. We are informed by a gentleman who resides in its neighbourhood that during the excavation of stones contiguous to "The Camp" he [fell] upon a coin which bore the date effigy of King Robert Bruce.
This is the sum of the information we have been able to collect in [relation] to this interesting memorial of a past age. It is on the Kildonan Estate - property of the Trustees of the Scottish Episcopal Fund |

"The ramparts of all the British Fort, were composed of dry stone and earth - this is a
point of agreement. The position of "The Camp", its distance from all the great connecting
roads, with a view to an easy use of which Roman Encampments were invariably constructed.
The entire absence of the minor antiquities which are commonly to be met with in the vicinity
of a pretorium, are all at variance with an association of this antiquity with the Romans
Within a radius of a quarter of a mile, there were, not more than three years ago,
upwards of thirty well defined Cairns. The Sites of several of these are still indicated
by a few loose stones, level with the surface, but even these faint traces are in process of
entire obliteration by the busy hand of improvement. They are evidence of a lengthened
undisturbed location, or a bloody contest."

"The opinion of the Rev. [Reverend] W. Dill, is
probably correct. Cammuck appears
to be derived from two Gaelic Words.
cam (crooked). mucach (dirty), agreeing
with the description we have of this stream.
The describer does not speak of its
crookedness; this, however, may be inferred, from its "slow and level" course (and seen on plan)
Muck is frequently found
Mock unusual

"The Gaelic word Fitheach is meant. It is pronounced Fe- ách,
signifies, a raven and is applied to many streams in Scotland
from the circumstance that flocks of ravens are attracted to particular
parts of such streams by the carcasses of drowned sheep.
Not withstanding the numerous and respectable authorities who
appear on this sheet in favour of Feoch, the word, I think,
should be adopted in its purity. (Fitheach*), or written Feach
