008 A considerable MarKet Town giving name to the Parish in which it is situate. It contains 5 Churches with a Manse for the Clergyman of each, 5 Schools chiefly supported by the childrens pence, 3 Branch BanKs, a Town Hall, a Post Office 2 Inns and Several Public Houses (the two principal only are Shewn) There are also Several extensive Tanneries and a Public Field for the amusements of the inhabitants, the chief trade carried on is weaving. The Town is well lighted by Gas, the Gas Works belonging to a Company. There is a Market held every Friday where the Farmers transact business in Cattle, Corn, Cheese &c. There are Fairs held on the first Friday of January, February, May and November - There is no Municipal Government.
