The Northeastern Aisle of the old Church of Ballantrae. It is all that remains of that building, & was a few years ago level with the Surface, when Captain Kennedy, Finnart got it rebuilt. Its walls are about eight feet in height. It Stands about the Centre of the Grave yard. It was the burial place of The Bargany family. Many of whose remains lie entombed here.

The interior of the Aisle contains a monument raised over the remains
of Gilbert the 16th Baron of that house. In the recess of the Monument
are two recumbent figures- male and female.The former in complete armour.
The canopy, which is Supported by Ionic pillars, bears the family arms.
A recent attempt to renovate this interesting relic of antiquity has done [more]
than time to deface it. The family heraldry is repeated on the altar
immediately above the tablet inscribed to the memory of the 16th Baron. placed [over]
the entrance. It consists of a female figure and a rampant [Griffon]
Supporting a shield, quartering crosses, chevronels and plumes surrounded by [---]
head armour
