The Malt Cross of Ayr - where all proclamations were made stood at the junction of High Street with New Bridge Street, it was removed when the New Bridge was built in 1778. Coins of Charles ll found at its base indicate its having been erected during [his] reign. Maggie Osborne was burnt for Witchcraft at this Cross about the end of the 16th Century. -
