"The harbour of Ardrossan is formed on a most magnificent design and were it completed
" & according to the original plan, would scarcely be inferior to any in the Kingdom. Though
"unfinished, is capable of accommodating at present a great number of vessels of almost
"any size; there being from 12 to 20 feet of depth at high water. It is secure against almost
"all winds, the roll of the sea in a storm is very inconsiderable and in rough weather
" it is frequently crowded with vessels which flee thither for safety.
