on the west by North Channel; on the South by the parish of Southend;
and on the East by the Firth of Clyde
Both ends of the parish to north and south are hilly. The coast may be
reckoned at 20 miles in Extent. The shore, towards the north, is chiefly rocky; on
the west, almost entirely sandy; and south-east it presents a bold and rocky appearance.
The beach, on the Bay of Campbeltown, is sand intermixed in many
places with pebbles, chiefly formed by quartz." Statistical Account."
