258 An Island at the mouth of Campbeltown Loch, the south & east sides of which terminate in an abrupt, bold and steep precipice of considerable height, along the southern shore are a number of caves (none bearing names). On the north eastern extremities on the edge of a large cliff is erected a lighthouse with revolving light; dwelling houses and gardens attached;

"In Island Devar, at the mouth of the loch, the sea has gradually worn its way into many places and thus formed a great number of Caves many of which are highly interesting".
