137 A sound about ⅓ of a mile in breadth and ¾ of a mile in length, branching westwards off the S. [South] End of the "Sound of Luing" & separating the Islands of Lunga & Scarba. The Current is stated to be running at the rate of 20 miles an hour during spring tides in this sound, but the speed would seem to be even greater, more particularly during a storm when the far-famed Gulf of Corrievrkan bears us Comparison with it as an object of awful admiration, Sig. [Signification] Pass of the Grey dog.
