[South East] side of "Eileach an Naoimh." about a ⅓ of a mile South west from "Geodha Iain" and about ¼ of a mile north east from "Geodha Bhrìde." This well seems to have derived its name from the belief current in the locality that St. [Saint] Columba had resided on the Island. English meaning Columba's well. It is also stated that this well was used by St [Saint] Columba during his supposed stay here ( in which case it will be about 1400 years old at least) however this may be there is no doubt of it's antiquity as - being the only fresh running water in the island - it must have been used when it was first inhabited. |
