165 | These ruins are situated on the E. [East] side of and condiguous to the farm steading of Oronsay and occupy the N.E. [North East] portion of the Grave-yard. They are said to be the ruins of a priory established here by one of the Lords of the Isles, about the 14th century. It is also stated that St. [Saint] Columba made trial of Oronsay for his missionary College, on his first arrival in the Hebrides, and that McSkene, author of "Skene's Celtic Scotland" & professed to have discovered a portion of the wall of this college in the present ruins, I was unable to find any one in Colonsay or Oronsay who could point it out. I called upon Colonel McNeill at Colonsay House; but he was unable to assist me, |
