History of Kintyre, by P. Macintosh
246 A small loch about 3 miles to the east of Glenbarr, property of K. McAlister of Glenbarr. "Loch Arnicle, ten miles north of Campbeltown, is pretty good for fish; it is one of the sources of Barr River, falling into the Atlantic. The locality of this lake is very picturesque; the highest Mountain of Kintyre lowering at the east end of it; not a house is near, and seldom a human being is seen near, except the shepherd in his solitary walk with his dogs, viewing his sheep, which mournfully bleat on the sides of the mountains, and the occasional sportsman with his rod or gun".
