FORT [Dunan na Cleithe] | Dunan a' Cliath Dunan a' Cliath Dunan a' Cliath "Dùnan na Cléithe", |
John Johnstone Ormsary Lodge Malcolm Tait John Gillies Fort of the Battalion. |
190 | A small fort on a little woody eminence between the County road and Ormsary House. There is now no trace of the walls remaining but the authority Mr Johnstone remembers when they were very visable all round. He also states that they were removed for the purpose of building walls in the neighbourhood. When the stones were being removed the then proprietor of Ormsary forbade the workmen interfering with two upright slabs still standing about 3 feet out of the ground at the east side and they seem to have been an entrance or gateway. No further information can be obtained regarding it from any of the inhabitants about the place. Sign. [Signification] "Little Fort of the multitude" |
