020 Sometime in the 15th. Century lived a chief of Lochiel who was populary known as Ailean nan Creach that is Allan of the Forays or Raids, because said Allan was celebrated for his incredible property to take his neighbours goods without as much as saying by your leave, At last he burned some people in a Church in Badenoch in the confines of Perthshire, a deed that was looked upon with horror by every one, The Church took steps to excommunicate himself and his clan unless due reperation was made, Allan who was a fool thought it best to make his peace with the Church & having made due submission he undertook to build seven Churches in such places as the ecclesiastical authorities might point out. One was at Kilmallie - dedicated to the Virgin another at Kilcoireel in the Braes of Lochaber dedicated to St. Cyril a third was at Ardgour Killmodain dedicated to St. Modan, a fourth in Killmonivaig called Kildonan dedicated to St. Donann a fifth was in Morvan a sixth in Ariseig and a seventh in Knoydart It is said that after all his evil courses Ailean nan Creach became a very pious man & made a very good end. Description given by the Revd. [Reverend] A. Stewart, Onich [Initialled] W.G.S. S.R.E. [Sapper Royal Engineers]
