Revd [Reverend] A. Clerk Mr A. Cameron, Corpach Mr K.A. Beaton |
006 | A small portion of the side wall, fast mouldering away, situated in the grave-yard at Kilmallie Church is all that now remains of one of the seven chapels founded by Locheil - Allan nan Creach - "Allan the Spoiler" - one of the chiefs of Locheil, about the year 1450. Mr Clerk, minister of Kilmallie, gives the following tradition respecting the origin of these chapels: "He (Locheil) was a bold spoiler and when he got old he got frightened for his soul and consulted the 'Spirits of DarKness'; and he was told to build seven churches (this is one of them) and that his soul would be saved." The dedicatory name of this chapel if it had one, is unKnown. |
