213 An artificial mound composed of earth and stones, on north margin of the above Water, a large precipice forms the south side. It is of an oval shape, & about 60 feet in length, and has been a place of some strength. "Upon several of the headlands near the coast there are ruins of small forts which probably served as watchtowers or stations for telegraphic signals"
