087 | About a quarter of a mile south of Kilmaronag, and immediately north of the Kennels, may be traced the foundations of what is said to have been the original Church of this parish. The burial ground (in which a large slab of schist, Covering a grave, may still be seen) was situated immediately northwest of the church "The cell of the hold Cross' where as yet remain the walls of an old Church. This it seems, of old, was esteemed the cheif place in the country; for here were the courts held." New Statl. [Statistical] Account. About a mile north of Kilvaree, is "Kilmaronag" the church dedicated to Marònag" New Stat. [Statistical] Account. "The church appears to have stood originally at Kilmaronag at the west of the parish where the ruins of a church may still be traced and was probably dedicated to St Ronan" Origines Parochiales. |
