072 | A small creek, situated on the east side of Lismore, and about 1/2 mile north of "Tirefoor Castle". There is a tradition in Connection with this port to the following effect: - St. Colomba, and his disciple St. Moluac, were on a Missionary tour from Iona to the King of Ross. When their boat or rather, "Curragh" came opposite to Tirefoor Castle, and seeing that, that portion of the island was thickly inhabited, the good Saint landed Moluac at the first Convenient place, with the view to the conversion of the natives. In this, it is said, he was successful beyond all expectation, and, in a short time, built a Chapel: - the site of which is still pointed out by the old people. But no traces of it are now to be seen. |
