According to the old Statistical Account, it was the Chancel of the Old Popish Cathedral, and received its present roof in 1749" N. Statl. [New Statistical] Account. "Lismore was a Bishop's see, the residence of the Bishop of the Isles, and at certain periods, of the Bishop of Argyll. The present Church of Lismore is the Chancel of the Old Catherdral, new roofed about 40 years ago, after lowering the old walls from 10 to 7 feet. The font and Confessional Chair* remain" Old Statistical Account. "The Church of Lismore was dedicated to St. Moloc or Moluach, who is recorded to have sojourned in the island * * The subsequent history of the Church till it became the Cathedral Church of Argyll is unknown.
