149 A fine farm house and offices the property of John Malcolm In the stackyard is a large circular building the wall of which is about 6 feet thick, and much delapsed but in some places it stands about 5 or 6 feet high and from the small amount of rubbish round it one would judge that it has never been of any great height. On the south west side is the appearance of what has been a narrow gate way or entrance. By some of the common people of the locality it is called a Castle. But the Rev. [Reverend] Mr. Mappelton of Duntroon thinks it has been built by the inhabitants of the country to defend their Cattle from the plunder of the Danes during the Danish invasion. I may state for farther information, that it is built without mortar, and a few years ago Mr. Campbell when working about it discovered a small peice of lead.
