CAIRN [Barr a' Chairn] Cairn 149 In the wood to the east of this hill is an ancient sepulchral Cairn to which I was accompanied by the Rev. [Reverend] Mr. Mapelton and another Gentleman, and in spending an hour or so turning a portion of it over we discovered a human skeleton the head lying towards the S.W. [South West] (without a cist) and a bit farther in the same Cairn we also discovered a [Cist?] containing burnt ashes.
