Fort (Dùn Beachaire) [note]
"That the Druids resided in Kintyre is without doubt; in many
places the remains of their buildings still exist, being circular
or oval, and built in high places, where you may see the one
from the other throughout the whole cultivated country,
as if they telegraphed to one another. In the neighbourhood
of Campbelton are seen such remains as Knockscalbert, Ranochan,
Ballevuling, and indeed, on almost every high hill throughout
the whole country; and as Kintyre was occasionally visited by
enemies, these places would be very useful in giving warning
to the whole country in a short time".
