lands or gradual declivities, there are several beautiful bays, though not of great extent also several headlands by which these bays are embraced. The rocks throughout the parish are almost all of one character - they consist chiefly of the mica-slate and have a general direction of N.E [North East] and S.W. [South West]. There is no market-town in the parish, the villages are Tignabruaich and Kames, the former is situated on the East side of the Kyles of Bute and mostly occupied by visitors from Glasgow & neighbourhood during the summer months - Kames strictly speaking is not a village it is joined to Tignabruaich and also contains many beautiful summer residences - it gives name to an adjoining Powder Works which are very extensive & manufacture mostly for the Government - there is another small hamlet or clachan where the parish church stands. besides the parish church another has been erected lately in the south-end of the Parish
The mansion houses in the parish are Ardlamont house, Ballimore house - and Otter house.
