Gaelic Orthography
171 A name applied to an evidently artificial mound of considerable height, oval in shape, & situated a little west of Ballimore. It has been strongly fortified by an earthern wall, and moat or ditch, which are still pretty entire, especially on the south & east sides, the north & west are nearly obliterated but still traceable, on the south & west are two outworks, the latter of an irregular shape, On the summit are two family burial tombs, of the Campbells of Ballimore & Otter; No information respecting it furthur than the name can be obtained in the locality;
Signification, McEwens hill. "This McEwen was the Chief of a Clan, & proprietor of the northern division of the parish called Otter. His possession of it must have been of very remote antiquity; for there is no record nor tradition that says who possessed the property before them."
