BURIAL GROUND [Earran CIann Imheir] Earrann Chlann Imhear

Earrann Clann Imheir"
Mr Johnstone
Mr McIsaac
Gael: ortho: [Gaelic orthography]
211 Earrann Chlann Imhear or "the portion of the Clan Iver". It derives this name in consequence of the bodies of portion of the Clan Iver who were slaughtered as before described having been buried here. Several years since when the proprietor of Kilberry prohibited burying in the graveyard close to his home, the natives had and still have to use this one. There is no record of its having been a burying ground before the McIvers were buried in it. Some years ago when the river was in a high state of flood it washed away a portion of the earth at the north east end and several people still living saw a great number of sculls and bones appearing on the bank which would tend to prove that there must have been a great number massacred.
