121 | A small island about ½/a mile east of Seil and about 12 miles south west of Oban. On the north west side of the island there is a slate quarry at present in use which is sunk to a depth of nearly 200 feet below sea level. Two old Quarries now disused and filled with water lie at the east end of the island. These were also wrought to a great depth. The slate in the island has been quarried for nearly two centuries and is held in great request for its fine qualities. The late Marquis of Breadalbane had the working of the quarries in his own hands but they are now let to a company. The homes for the men employed at the quarries are all of one storey high, and built near the east end of the island.
