223 | Applicable to a large standing stone 8 feet high inclining towards the east, on the side of the road a short distance north of Tarbert Farm & house. The traditional account is that it was erected over the body as a monument to some Chief or man of great strength. The hilt of a sword and silver Scales (complete) were found on the beach near to the above mentioned stone. Sig: [Signification] The pillar of Tarbert "S.W. [South West] of Carn Bàn at a narrow part of the island called Tarbat there is a large stone on end known by the name of Carr an Tarbart or the pillar of Tarbat.
