"The names Kirkmichael and Kilmarnock seem to indicate the former existence of Churches dedicated to St. Michael and St. Marnock", Origines Parochiales
MOUND [Kilmarnock] 194 There is a remarkable artificial mound in a wood about 20 chains south of this palce (194.2 Trace 1) which may have been where the Church stood. The proprietor is of opinion that it was a place for burning wood, but makes the statement only on supposition -
