062 ; 063 ; 071 ; 072 | The parish of Tough is in the Presbytery of Alford, and in the County and Synod of Aberdeen. It contains about 7112 Statute acres and is bounded on the north by the parishes of Alford and Keig; on the east and south east by the parishes of Monymusk and Cluny; on the south by Kincardine O' Neil and part of Lumphanan; and on the west by the parishes of Lumphanan and Leochel and Cushnie. A low ridge shelters its interior from the east, the south and the south west; and swells and rising grounds elsewhere give it a rolling surface, but are mostly arable. The soil is, in general, light, in many places shallow and stony; but in some very deep, and, though mixed with moss extremely fertile. Those hills which are not under culture make excellent sheep-walk; and the barren moors and dry soil are mantled with plantations of fir. There are no detached portions of Tough parish nor are there any detached portions of another parish situated within it. |
