to the Fishermen in Fordyce Street, and another belonging to the Society of Shoemakers opposite to the Inn in Pitsligo Street. It has a Post office and a Branch of the Union Bank of Scotland. The affairs of the Burgh are managed by a Bailie and 6 Councillors appointed by the Superior annually. There are two very old buildings in the Burgh, one on the south side of the Market Place called the "Lodging", and another on the north west side of the Union Bank called "The Jam". The former was erected as a residence for a Dowager Lady Pitsligo. They are now occupied as dwelling houses. The Tolbooth erected by Lord Pitsligo when he granted a Charter to the Burgh stands at the east end of the market Place. There is an inscription on a stone in front C.K.II 1683. It is now used as a Cooperage. The inhabitants of the Burgh having lost their right to it.

"There were two large houses erected one of which was called the Jam. It is still in good repair and inhabited. The date of its erection 1573 is inscribed on a stone in the wall. The other was named "The Lodging house" being built as a residence for a Dowager Lady Pitsligo. There is a stone above the entrance with a rose and heart and the following inscription "Nume Flora Ubi Seges". When Lord Pitsligo granted a Charter to the Burgh he built a Tolbooth which is still standing altho' the inhabitants of the Burgh have by some means lost their right to it."
