023 "The ruins of two Castles, both of which were once the property of the Marischal family, are still to be seen in Peterhead. One of them was situated on the Keith-inch, and the other which appears to have been of a more ancient date, was Situated at the North end of the Longate, and the corner of Brook Lane, where part of it is still to be seen" Vide Arbuthnot's History of Peterhead page 80. The ruins of an old Castle on the North end of the Longate, supposed to be built by one of the Earls Marischal prior to 1593. However be this as it may, it was long frequented by the family of Marischal and resorted to as their place of rendezvous, being kept up (though almost in ruins) as an Inn by John Robertson, Commonly called Yokieshill, from which the plot adjoining takes the name. The stone with this inscription was placed in a house of more modern date , which is to be seen to this day, "They Say, and what Say they? Do you well, and let them Say" Vide Buchan's Annals of Peterhead page 12. A portion of the walls of this building are yet standing and the ruins of what is said to have been the stables etc. adjoining The name Yokieshill would not now be known to the inhabitants of Peterhead.
