075 An ancient artifical Earthen mound, situated near the Old Machar Church. It is generally supposed to have been a Beacon Hill, on which the inhabitants were in the habit of lighting a fire, for the purpose of alarming and calling together the inhabitants to protect each other on the approach of an enemy. Others assert that it was deposited there by persons who had commited Certain sins, which were punished by the transgressors having to carry so many loads of Earth or Stones every day to a place appointed by the Chief Ecclesiastic of the parish.
