OLD DEER [village] Old Deer "Pratts Buchan" 021 "The Village of Deer is of great antiquity, but within the last thirty years the greater portion of the old houses have been replaced by new and superior ones. Previous to that time, it was like most old villages - a mean unsightly place, consisting of one street, but separated into two branches at the Kirk-style, most of the houses being built with the gable to the street. The features of the place are now completely changed, only one or two of the old buildings remaining." "Pratts Buchan"
ADEN HOUSE Aden House "Pratts Buchan" 021 PTO To return to old Deer. At less than a quarter of a mile east of the village, and on the opposite side of the stream, is Aden House (Russell), the ancient Alneden, from a barony of that name, an elegant and commodious mansion, built in a regular square, the centre of which is a billiard-room or library of noble dimensions and beautiful design. The west front is chaste and classical. (over)
