"There is but one village in the parish, New Deer, Containing upwards of 100 houses, 90 on the property of Mr Gordon of Manar, & the remainder on Lord Aberdeen's property.***
There are 3 parochial Schools, endowed with the minimum Salary each. There are also six private Schools, on the teachers own adventure, two of them taught by females." ***
