073 A plain castellated building from two to six storeys high consisting of square and round towers small windows rough-casted and slated in bad repair going fast to ruin. occupied only by a game keeper the property of Captain John Gordon, The new Statistical Account has the following and no further information can be got viz "The castle of Midmar is placed on the north side of the Hill of Fare of the time at which it was built there is no historical account. Tradition informs us that part of it was erected by Sir W. Wallace when governor of Scotland as a hunting seat for his friend Sir Thomas Longavale."
