061 Formerly a charter was obtained (and still exists) for incorporating this into a Borough of Barony with permission to hold Fairs, Markets, &c. hence originated the necessity for the Tollbooth. The Markets have for a long time ceased to be held here; and the Tollbooth falling into disuse and decay, has been quite demolished some time ago, so that at present, the site can merely be pointed out but the charter still stands good and is yet in existance.
