There is very little interesting matter attached to the history of this parish, there only being two objects of note in the shape of antiquities. viz. The Mansion of Leith Hall the seat of the Leith family and the remains of Christs Kirk on the green. The former a large block of buildings in the Castellated Style - and the latter the supposed scene of the celebrated Poem of "Christs Kirk on the Green," assigned to the pen of James V. of Scotland. The parish on the whole is rather inclined to be hilly altho' there are only two hills worth notice, the one is Knockandy, a large hill a little north west of Wardhouse which rises boldly from the south side and forms a striking feature in the landscape, the other is the hill of Christ's Kirk, on the south side of which a fair was formerly held during the night and was termed the sleepy market, but this market is now abolished. There are two places of worship the Established Church and Free Church - three Schools, viz. 1 Parish - 1 F.C. [Free Church] School and one established by the General assembly. There are also three Mansion Houses, Leith Hall, Wardhouse and Craig Hall. The two former are occupied by their respective proprietors the other belongs to Mr. Grant of Drumminer, but is let as a farmhouse. There are four proprietors in this parish. viz. His Grace the Duke of Richmond K.G. [Knight of the Garter], Col. [Colonel] Leith Hay, C.P. Gordon Esq. and Robert Grant. Esq., but only two of the said proprietors are resident in the parish. The land is about one half under cultivation, about 1/2 moss and the rest wood. Tho' there is plenty of water in the district, there is only one stream worthy of mention, The Shevock which rises in the moss of Leith Hall and flows thro' the parishes of Kennethmont, Insch and part of Oyne, emptying itself into the Ury after a run of about 7 miles. There is no Village of note in the parish, the only thing approaching to one being some scattered groups of houses called Kirkhill, about a mile and a quarter from Kennethmont Railway Station, and there is only one Inn, in this parish which is situated near the said Station. There are fewer objects of interest or note in this parish than any district in the Garioch.
Note - There is no portion of this parish detached, nor portion, or portions of any Parish enclosed within the boundary of this parish.
