036 | This chapel, it is said, was founded in the year 1376 by Adam Pyngil burgess of Aberdeen in Connection with the Cathedral Church of Aberdeen. It was dedicated to Saint Regulus or St. Rules, and removed about 70 years Since So that no vestige of the Site can now be seen. Site is in an arable field abt. [about] 7. Chains S. [South] of Folla School About the middle of the 18th Century Bishop Petrie of the Diocese of Moray kept a College here, It is Said that a presbyterian rabble on one occasion plundered the church of its ornaments amongst which were two Silver Chalices of Considerable antiquity one of which however, after a long period, was returned, and is now in the possession of Mr Leslie the Incumbent of St. Georges Meikle Folla the other was retained and is now in use in the Ph. [Parish] Ch. [Church] of Daviot Mr Leslie the Incumbent it seems is gathering Materials for writing the Ecclesiastical history of this district. The Chapel of St. Rule, at Folla, or Folla-Rule, was founded, in 1376. by Adam Pyngil, burgess of Aberdeen, with consent of Marjory Blackvatyr, his spouse, It was endowed with the lands of Folethrowle, which the founder acquired in 1364 from Hugh de Ross, Lord of Pilorth, and brother of William Earl of Ross, and with the Mill and Multures of Folethrowle.
