029 | The old church, It is said, to have been of a humble description and was pulled down in 1849 and the present handsome edifice erected on its site The architectural details is correct and with its Spire rising from out a cluster of Trees forms a beautiful and striking object in the landscape for miles around There is Sculptured stone over the porch Three Crosses built into the E. [East] gable, one of which was taken from Fyvie old Parish Church St. Peters A Sculptured Sheaf of arrows is in a niche into the vestry gable which Dean Wilson procured from the ruins of Gight Castle. Notwithstanding all are Considered as relics of the neighbouring priory of Fyvie attached to the Church is a modernly laid out grave yard. Situated upon a conspicuous Knoll forming the Centre of Woodhead village. |
