028 | Is one of the Cairns mentioned in the parish Statistics, It is now reduced to a Small heap of Stones. Situated on the Summit of a conspicuous hill. Abt. [About] ⅛ of a mile N.N.E. [North North East] of Mill of Ardlogie and abt. [about] the Same distance N.W. [North West] of the West Mains of Ardlogie The tradition Connected with it is that the Gentleman or Farmer of Kirkton of Fyvie visited the Laird of Ardlogie to arrange with him about marrying his daughter and on his return the Laird accompanied him a part of the way where they differed and quarrelled and that the Laird killed him on the spot on which the Cairn was Erected Another version of the tradition is, that they quarrelled at the Cairn &c. It seems however that no Satisfactory account Can be had about the origin of the Cairn. |
