027 | the remains of an ancient castle which was the residence of the ancient Lairds of Frendraught: it was burned whether by accident or otherwise is not known - on the [18th] October 1630, and in it perished the Viscount of Aboyne the eldest son of the Marquis of Huntly, the Laird of Rothemay & servant; George Gordon & servt. [servant] English Will; Col. [Colonel] Lvat [Lovat] and servt [servant] and notwithstanding a close investigation in the cause, or origin of the calamity it was never known by the public; but it is generally supposed that the Lady locked the bedchambers on those who perished therein and threw the keys into a draw-well in the Courtyard where a pump is now situated.
