It was at this ford that the Covenanter general Baillie with his army crossed the Don, in order to give battle to The Earl of Montrose, in the year 1645. The second mode of spelling this name was submitted to Mr Farquharson who cossed out the E in the second syllable and substituted in its place an A, which the rest of the authorities agreed to. |
